This measure aims to reinforce occupant safety and prevent the risks associated with domestic fires. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What does the law say?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p>Every dwelling must be equipped with at least one smoke detector per inhabited level. This applies to : <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Single-family homes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The apartments<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Studios<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Student kots<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>The owner is responsible for the installation and initial operation of the detector.<\/p>\n\n<p>The AIS technical department ensures that each of its homes is equipped with a smoke detector.<\/p>\n\n<p>Secondly, the tenant is responsible for regular maintenance (replacing batteries, checking correct operation, etc.).<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Remember to :<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Test the detector regularly<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Replace batteries if necessary (if the detector beeps every 30 seconds, the batteries need replacing).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Notify us if you notice that a detector is no longer working.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>No detector = violation!<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p>A home without a smoke detector may be considered non-compliant and lead to :<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Administrative penalties<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Insurance problems in the event of fire<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Since 2004, the installation of smoke detectors has been mandatory in all homes in Wallonia.
